Online marketing agency in Haarlem.

AceDigital is an online marketing agency in Haarlem. Since 2020 we have helped 118+ businesses structurally improve their marketing, through advertising on Google, Meta, LinkedIn and recently ChatGPT. We work with a small team of senior marketers and charge based on results, not hours.

// Rates

How much does an online marketing agency in Haarlem cost?

Agencies in the Netherlands currently charge hourly rates of between €75 and €175. That figure doesn't tell you much. A low rate for someone who is still learning the trade on your budget is more expensive than a higher rate for someone who does the right thing in half the time. And a campaign that runs on the wrong metric for three months costs more than any agency ever could.

That is why we prefer to work with fixed fee rates rather than with individual hours. That way you know in advance what the costs are and what you get in return. Our in-house Customer Journey Advertising training programme, in which your own marketer builds the advertising channel under our guidance, costs, for example, a one-off fee of €7,500. For full-service advertising and ongoing guidance, we create a bespoke package price, as that depends on your target audience, the number of channels and your media budget.

What is never included is the advertising budget itself. That goes straight to Google, Meta or LinkedIn and is separate from our fees. How much that should be depends on your target audience and your choice of channels. More on that below, because that is precisely where most campaigns fall flat.

marketing psychology
Reframing the competition: whoever compares hourly rates chooses based on cost. Whoever compares outcomes chooses based on value. The market range first provides the anchor the reader is looking for, and then shifts the question from ‘what does an hour cost’ to ‘what does the project deliver’.

// Choosing a channel

Channel selection starts with your target audience, not the platform.

Most conversations about online marketing start with the channel. Should we be on LinkedIn? Does Google Ads still work? That is the wrong order. We start by asking three questions.

01

Where is your target audience located?

If you want to reach a B2B audience, you have to be able to target a mix of job titles, company size and industry. That is only possible on LinkedIn. Unless that target audience is also actively searching for what you supply, because then Google Search comes into it.

02

Can you target them well there?

If you have a story to tell that needs space, you need platforms that give you that space: Meta, YouTube, LinkedIn. In Search, you are limited to a few lines of text. Cramming a complex proposition into a search ad does not work, no matter how high you bid.

03

How much does it cost to reach them?

Advertising on LinkedIn is expensive, which makes this question decisive there. And some channels are demonstrably stronger in a certain phase, but precisely for that reason more expensive: every advertiser chooses them and the auction passes that cost on. The strongest channel is therefore not automatically the cleverest one.

// Communication

How people decide determines what you say.

Beneath our channel choice lies a second layer, and that is about communication. We work with three principles that feature in almost every campaign.

Awareness phases

According to Eugene Schwartz, someone who doesn't yet recognise their problem needs a different message than someone who is comparing three suppliers. The same advertisement for both works for neither.

How people process information

Dual processing: the majority of your audience scans, feels and decides quickly. Only when you get past that first layer is there room for arguments.

How people decide

Prospect theory and heuristics. Loss weighs heavier than gain, and people lean on rules of thumb. That changes how you formulate an offer.

Communicate like a human being, and people are open to your message. Communicate like a commercial entity, and they'll scroll right past.

That does not mean you can ignore the platform's rules. Quite the opposite. We strictly follow the best practices of each platform, and within those guidelines, adapt the message to how people process information and make decisions. Both the technology and the psychology must be spot on.

// By phase

The same channel does something different per phase.

Many agency pages link channels one-to-one to stages: social is at the top, Google is at the bottom. It doesn't work that way. Every channel has a campaign type for virtually every stage. What changes is the campaign type, the message and the metric by which you evaluate it.

That last part is where things most frequently go wrong. Anyone who judges a campaign designed to create demand by the yield of a campaign that harvests existing demand will conclude that the channel does not work. Whereas the campaign did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Phase 1

Problem not yet recognised

Reach and recognition. Meta video to a broad audience, YouTube and Demand Gen in Google, thought leadership ads on LinkedIn.

Phase 2

Researching a solution

Under consideration. SEO and GEO, Meta with proof and case studies, Demand Gen, document ads on LinkedIn.

Phase 3

Compare providers

Coming out best in the comparison. Google Search on brand and comparison keywords, remarketing across all platforms.

Phase 4

Decide

Remove barriers. Google Search on purchase intent, Shopping, Meta retargeting, LinkedIn lead gen forms, conversion rate optimisation.

Phase 5

After the purchase

Repeat purchase and recommendation. Customer list remarketing, email, excluded audiences.

// Channels

What each channel can and cannot do.

Google Ads

Search captures existing demand. That is its strength, and immediately its limitation: if nobody is searching, there is nothing to harvest. With YouTube and Demand Gen, you can actually create demand within the same account, using completely different metrics. We let Performance Max run alongside where possible, but not without boundaries.

Meta Ads

The channel that can handle the entire journey: prospecting with video to a cold audience, retargeting with proof, customer lists for repeat purchases. Strong if your target audience is broad and you have something to explain. Weaker with very specific B2B target audiences that you cannot slice by job title.

LinkedIn Ads

The channel where you can combine your job title, company size and sector most sharply. For B2B, sometimes the only route. Also the most expensive click of all: usually €10 to €20, or €4 to €6 if intentionally set up for volume. The question is always whether that precision is worth the difference in price.

ChatGPT Ads

Advertising in ChatGPT was rolled out in the Netherlands on 24 August 2026. Access is currently managed via OpenAI's Ads Solutions team and affiliated agencies. We have just started with this and are in the testing phase. Do not expect years of experience from us on this channel, but do expect us to figure it out thoroughly at the moment it matters.

SEO and GEO

Slow and cumulative, and the only layer that doesn't stop once you cut the budget. GEO, being discoverable in AI answers, partly follows the same logic: clear answers, quotable figures, a consistent description of who you are.

Conversion rate optimisation

Often cheaper than a larger budget. If your ads work but your landing page doesn't, you're paying for traffic that you're turning away yourself. That's why we always look at where the traffic lands. See also our High Impact Marketingsite.

More about how we connect these channels can be found at Customer Journey Advertising. If you are recruiting staff, take a look at Recruitment Advertising.

// Measurement

Without proper measurement you steer on incorrect data.

Managing solely by CPMs and CPCs is too expensive at current prices. You pay for reach and clicks without knowing what they deliver, and you miss out on the power of algorithms. They only become effective once they know what a good outcome is.

What we find with virtually every new client: conversions are indeed taking place, but they are not being measured. Either they are attributed to an undefined channel, or everything ends up as direct traffic. The result is poor attribution: you don't know which channel delivers what, and the algorithm receives incorrect signals.

Measurement has become more difficult in recent years due to privacy legislation and opt-ins. That is no reason to give up, but rather to modernise the setup. We work with server-side tracking and offline conversions, and we take into account that you cannot measure everything. A setup that pretends everything is measurable provides a false sense of security.

// Adjusting

Making adjustments is where the leverage lies.

Setting up a campaign is just the beginning. The return on investment comes from what you do afterwards, and that is two things at once.

The first is feeding the algorithm the right data, so it finds more of the right people. Not more leads, but more leads that fit. Not more orders, but orders from customers who return more often or spend more. That difference lies in which signals you feed back.

The second is shifting budget from what doesn't work to what does work. In practice, campaigns keep running for months because they were set up at some point. That's precisely where the profit lies, and it costs nothing extra. That is the core of our Digital Budget Optimization.

// Who it is for

When this works, and when it doesn't yet.

We are not the right fit for everyone, and not every moment is the right moment. Three conditions largely determine that.

Your product or service already sells somewhere

Through other channels, via your network, or there is demonstrable interest. If that is not yet there, then hiring an agency is too early. Advertising magnifies something that is already there; it does not create something out of nothing.

A budget is a switch, not an expense

You start small and look for a proof of concept first. But as soon as that is in place, you need additional budget to stabilise and grow the results. If you don't do that, you'll nose-dive while taking off. Why that works like that.

Expect a longer haul

Most purchases are not impulse buys. Depending on the channel and your decision-making cycle, you will see where you stand after two to six months. If you are looking for results within two weeks, then we are not the right partner for you.

And sometimes full service simply is not what you need. If you have a marketer on your payroll, then our in-house training programme often more logical: then that person builds the channel themselves, with us alongside them.

marketing psychology
Self-selection: stating for whom it does not work makes the promise more credible for those who are a good fit. Whoever recognises themselves in the conditions has already made the first choice.

Hourly rates for agencies in the Netherlands range from €75 to €175.
